I just bought my first helm. It's made out of mild steel and showing some signs of discoloration rust (that wasn't there when I got it....happened since then). What would be the best way to get rid of this and to prevent it from happening in the future? Is there some sort of sealant that can be put on to help?
Thanks,
Cinead

Re: 1st helm
Tue, April 8, 2008 - 11:59 AMSand Paper and steel wool to remove the rust. Paint to prevent it from rusting again. If you don't want to paint your armor, I would recoment a coat of wax. -

Tue, April 8, 2008 - 12:18 PMSteel wool followed by Mothers Crome and Rim polish then a nice coat of Mothers car wax is what I use on my helm. I clean and wax it after every time I fight in it. -

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 6:37 AMYes, I was refering to car wax. I had not heard of the restoration wax that was posted. But it sounds like something I will try.
Works great and was made to form a hard shell finish. I have found Mothers to be better than Turtle for armor applications. Also, stay away from the liguid waxes. Use the natural paste wax. -

Re: 1st helm
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 9:44 AMi have a helm that i spray with the same silicone spray i use for my various swords and axes, it seems to work well enough- no tarnishing, no rust.. but you wind up smelling like car parts. it adds a nice shine though.
